Misyel’s SILVER LINING
If you are a true blue Bacolodnon, the name Misyel’s would always come to mind when it comes to food and catering needs. This family owned business was started way back in 1994 by Michelle Uy–Gerona and her mom, Rosita “Nene” Uy who loves whipping up home cooked dishes in their kitchen.
Well, who would have thought that what started out as a small catering business with just pork barbecue, lengua with mushroom sauce and ube and mango cakes on the menu would later on become one of Bacolod’s top catering services company? And now…after years of hard work, Misyel’s will be marking their silver anniversary this coming June! Galing, di ba?
The BACK STORY
Michelle was then a fresh graduate from De la Salle University when she and her mom decided to start the catering business which they named Misyel’s. Michelle recalled, “Si Mommy ko, siya ang mahilig magluto. She helped me a lot when we were just starting, until later on, she passed it on to me.”
PASSION FOR COOKING and SERVICE
I asked Michelle where she took up Culinary lessons and she replied, “Oh, I didn’t take up formal schooling in culinary arts. My mom influenced me a lot in the kitchen, she’s the one who cooks very well. She taught me her recipes and eventually passed everything to me.” Her Mommy Nene may have entrusted everything to her but Michelle didn’t stop there.
Until now she still continues to develop the food and menu, improve their resources and reach more connections. Despite the fact that many competitors have already joined the market—Misyel’s has maintained its position as one of the most sought after caterers in the city.
MISYEL’s SECRET, DISCOVERED
Oh I discovered one of Misyel’s secrets. Hmmn, you may wonder why they lasted this long. I believe one of the factors to its success is how they handle their staff. Misyel’s, now at 25 years still has 3 of their original staff with them and the rest of their kitchen help are also counting long years of service. That shows how they take care of the people who work for them.
