RACHEL’S RECORDING COMEBACK AFTER 10 YEARS
OPM (Original Pilipino Music) won’t be complete without Rachel Alejandro whose songs are remarkable and memorable. Daughter of the famous OPM hit maker Hajji Alejandro, Rachel started her singing career in the ‘90’s when she launched her single, Mr. Kupido. This was followed by another super hit, Nakapagtataka, a revival of her father’s song in the 70’s.
Of course, who cannot not relate to Paalam Na? This single became so popular that over the years it is still one of the top break up songs on air. Recently, Rachel gracefully joined the mediacon to tell us more about her upcoming projects and her new album, “Rachel Alejandro, The Great OPM Song Book Vol.1”
A NEW ALBUM, A FRESH START
The pandemic made Rachel realize a lot, and it also dawned on her that things may not be the same anymore in the entertainment scene. “ Habang nandoon sa New York, sa loob ng bahay namin, napaisip ako. Everything about my career, am I still relevant?” says Rachel.
True enough, her questions and apprehensions were heard. When her manager Ms. Girlie Rodis (GR) decided to stay for a while in the US, she entrusted Rachel and her career to her friend Direk Lauren Dyogi, who is now the new Star Magic Head. So, in July of this year, Rachel officially joined Star Magic, ABS-CBN’s talent management arm.
Rachel is now optimistic and happy with the projects lined up for her. One of her big starts is having an album after ten years. Eight (8) OPM classics were freshly arranged for her first ever album under Star Music. This aims to bring young listeners and the young at hearts to listen and love OPM music.
The album’s key track is “Ang Pag-ibig Kong Ito,” a ballad originally recorded by Leah Navarro that now bears a striking jazz sound. Other tracks included are “Catch Me, I’m Falling,” “Hanggang,” “Ikaw,” “Kahit Habang Buhay,” “Kung Ako Ba Siya,” “Kung Ako Na Lang Sana,” and “Sabi Na Nga Ba.”
RACHEL, ON CAMERA AS NATHALIA LUCERO
Rachel is excited that she gets to act again. As an actress, she last starred in the critically acclaimed films “Ang Larawan” in 2017 and “Quezon’s Game” in 2019.
Soon, she will be Nathalia Lucero in The Broken Marriage Vow which stars Zanjoe Marudo, Sue Ramirez, Zaijan Jaranilla and Jodi Sta. Maria. “Kaya ako nandito sa napakandang lugar na to’ ngayon sa Baguio, because we’re taping some scenes here.”
Rachel also sports a new hair color that looks really good on her.”Kaya ganito ang ayos ko, ang aking hair ay blonde dahil I’ll be portraying Nathalia Lucero, the mom of Lexy Lucero (Sue Ramirez) in the teleserye. Maganda ang role niya rito, mahalaga rin ang ginagampanan niya kaya mahaba rin ang takbo ng character ni Nathalia”
Rachel has only good words and praises for her co-actors and she’s thankful to be part of this upcoming teleserye which is an adaption of the Koreanovela, World of the Married.
